A three track West Coast / Chi-town collaboration from two unsung heroes of US house – Joshua Michaels and Dwayne Washington – which just about sums up everything that is vital about the two scenes. ‘Biolatinoids’ looks firmly to the Windy City deepness for its inspiration with layers of acid-drenched instrumentation and timeless strings. ‘Syndicate’ hits the boompty button for a low tempo funky groove, a jerky analogue lead giving a Derrick Carter-esque feel to random noises and busy percussion. Add the sampling antics of ‘Mouth’ making an ace beats type strap on and you have a truly exceptional package.

Like so many others, this came like a bolt out of the blue and, even though it's well before payday, I had to have this astonishing album on vinyl to prove it exists. The feel of the tunes makes me feel like the Impressions do, Curtis Mayfield, the big spaces and instinctive horns and stuff drifting in and out. Great grooves and I can see lots of ghosts nodding along to this with big smiles on their faces. At last! Anthony Cottrell
